It's all about the story...

I've been a story-teller all my life. I've also been a writer and a photographer for as far back as I can remember. I wrote on notebooks, typewriters, and on computers. I've written on scraps of paper, in journals and digitally. I've written both personally and professionally.  I got my first camera when I was about 7 years old. It was a Kodak Instamatic that used 110 film and required a square flash bulb that closely resembled a square ice cube. I had a Kodak Disc camera, which, looking back was quite a technological advancement. I've had all sorts of point and shoot cameras, but it was the Canon AE-1 Program, my first "real" camera that would change the way I really saw the world.  My world turned around. I would continue to tell and share my stories, but with the camera, it was less about the big picture, but more about the detail.

Sometimes I shoot to complement an article or story, and sometimes I shoot to tell the story. But it's all about the story.

Whether I am photographing interiors, food, product, graffiti, my children or 'en plein air', you'll see snippets of a scene, the details of a story. I'm always looking at things through a lens, even if I don't have a camera with me. Whether it's my iPhone or my camera, I am always capturing images that tell a story.

I did it! After much deliberation I have launched Jessica Ryan Fine Art Photography. Please come and have a look.
